Jules Wabbes (1919-1974) is indisputably the ambassador of Belgian design of the 60s and 70s. He created many interior designs, such as the international science pavilion for the World Exhibition in Brussels, the royal couple’s apartment on the Godetia and the offices of Crédit Communal and Générale de Banque. He created his own furniture and founded Le Mobilier Universel, a production and distribution company. His tables, desks and bookcases constructed of glued blocks of end grain tropical hardwood (bois de bout) soon became his trademark. His lighting and accessories demonstrate an equal mastery of metal working. Jules Wabbes left us with a body of work that is a hymn to clean lines and timeless elegance and justifiably celebrated throughout the world.

Jules Wabbes’ elegant design has beentranslated to the 21th century by various design companies(Bulo in collaboration with Weber & Ducre, Bic Carpets, Declercq, Serax, Beka) that will be presented at different design fairs. These contemporary interpretations can be seen in the rather recent reapproval of design from that period, and the enigmatic figure of Jules Wabbes on the international scene.
